National Business League Conference to Focus on AI
The National Business League (NBL) announced its 126th national conference will return to Atlanta in 2026. The event for the Black business federation will focus on key themes including artificial intelligence, global trade, and enterprise ownership. The NBL was founded in 1900 by Booker T. Washington.
- The conference's focus on AI is a cornerstone of the NBL's "Black Economic Freedom Movement," a major initiative aiming to digitize 1 million Black-owned businesses by 2028 through the adoption of artificial intelligence and quantum technology. - A key component of the NBL's digital transformation effort is the creation of a "Digital-Ready Assessment Tool" to gauge businesses' technological capabilities and a "Digital Resource Marketplace" to connect them with necessary tools and services. - NBL President and CEO, Dr. Ken L. Harris, advocates for a balanced approach to AI, acknowledging it as a crucial tool for business efficiency and research while also cautioning that algorithms are not inherently neutral and require scrutiny to ensure fairness and prevent bias. - The 2026 event will feature an AI and Digital Enterprise Development Summit, alongside a Government and Corporate Contracting Pavilion, aiming to connect Black Business Enterprises (BBEs) with public and private sector opportunities. - The NBL's broader strategy, revitalizing Booker T. Washington's "Tuskegee Machine," includes establishing AI and digital enterprise centers to support Black-owned businesses in the global marketplace. - The previous NBL conference in 2025 drew over 3,300 attendees from more than 33 Pan-African nations, indicating a significant focus on global trade and international networking opportunities for the 2026 event. - Historically, the NBL has focused on economic development as a pathway to broader social equality, a mission that now extends to closing the digital divide for Black entrepreneurs in the era of AI.
