Free Rose Pruning Classes Saturday

The Monterey Bay Rose Society is hosting free rose pruning classes this Saturday at Alladin Nursery in Watsonville, California. The classes are designed to help rose enthusiasts prepare for the spring bloom season.

- The Monterey Bay Rose Society was established in 1980 to support rose growers in the specific climates of Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties. - The society's educational mission is fulfilled through meetings with speakers, a monthly digital newsletter called "The Bay Rose," and public events. - In addition to classes, the society maintains a public display garden with over 130 roses at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds. - Alladin Nursery, the venue for the classes, has a long history in Watsonville, having been founded in 1919 by Danish immigrant Niels Peter Jensen. - The name "Alladin" was chosen by the founder to signify that his dream of owning his own nursery business had come true. - The nursery is a frequent host for community events, including an annual, non-judged Rose Show in May in partnership with the Monterey Bay Rose Society. - According to the University of California Master Gardeners, winter is the best time to prune most rose varieties in the Monterey Bay area to encourage vigorous growth and prevent fungal diseases. - The classes will be led by Consulting Rosarians, who are certified by the American Rose Society to provide expert advice on rose cultivation.
