Lingard Joins Brazilian Giant Corinthians
Former England international Jesse Lingard has signed with Corinthians in Brazil. The ex-Manchester United forward becomes one of the most high-profile English players to move to South America in recent years. The signing signals the growing global appeal of the Brazilian league and offers Lingard a chance to reignite his career.
This move to Brazil marks another chapter in Lingard's post-Manchester United career, following a two-season spell with FC Seoul in South Korea. During his time in the K League, the attacking midfielder scored 19 goals in 67 appearances. His departure from FC Seoul came in December 2025, after both parties mutually agreed to part ways. Before his move to Asia, Lingard had a one-year stint with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League for the 2022-23 season. Lingard's contract with Corinthians is set to run until the end of 2026, with an option to extend for an additional year based on performance metrics. Reports suggest his salary will be around £86,000 per month. The 33-year-old is a rare example of an English footballer moving to the top flight of Brazilian football. One of the few predecessors was Seth Burkett, who had a brief professional spell in the country. The move is indicative of a growing international presence in the league, which saw 137 foreign-born players registered for the 2025 season. At Corinthians, Lingard will be reunited with former Manchester United teammate Memphis Depay, who joined the São Paulo-based club in 2024. The team is managed by former Brazil national team coach Dorival Junior, who took the helm in April 2025.
