Subaru teases 2027 Getaway

Subaru released photos and early coverage of the 2027 Getaway at the New York Auto Show, positioning it as one of the notable debuts from the event’s product galleries. (Photos and writeups are already circulating, which means dealers may start taking early consumer interest calls soon.) (thetruthaboutcars.com)

Subaru used the 2026 New York International Auto Show to reveal a name nobody had seen in its lineup before: Getaway. The new model is a 2027 sport utility vehicle with three rows, standard all-wheel drive, and an electric powertrain instead of a gasoline engine. (media.subaru.com) This is Subaru’s biggest electric vehicle so far. Subaru says the Getaway seats up to seven people and is its “most spacious” electric model, which puts it in the family-hauler slot that brands usually reserve for their largest crossovers. (subaru.com) The numbers are aimed at families who still want speed. Subaru says the Getaway makes 420 horsepower, reaches 60 miles per hour in less than 5 seconds, and can tow up to 3,500 pounds. (media.subaru.com) The range target is set just above a line many shoppers now look for. Subaru lists more than 300 miles of available range and an estimated fast-charging rate of up to 150 kilowatts, which it says can take the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. (media.subaru.com) Subaru also built the charging port around the plug that Tesla made common in North America. The company says the Getaway uses a North American Charging Standard port and is compatible with the Tesla Supercharger network. (subaru.com) The pitch is not “city commuter.” Subaru gave the Getaway 8.3 inches of ground clearance and its dual-mode X-MODE traction system, which is the brand’s software for loose dirt, snow, and rough surfaces. (media.subaru.com) Inside, Subaru went big on screens because that is now the price of entry in this class. The Getaway gets a 14-inch center touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and available second-row captain’s chairs. (media.subaru.com) The timing matters because Subaru is expanding its electric lineup all at once, not one model at a time. Coverage from April 1 said the Getaway debuted in New York alongside the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid as Subaru pushed a more electrified 2027 range. (thetruthaboutcars.com) Subaru says the Getaway goes on sale in late 2026, which means the photos now circulating are the start of a long runway before customers actually see one on dealer lots. That is why an auto-show reveal like this works like a movie trailer: the name, shape, and specs arrive months before the product does. (motor1.com) One quiet detail in the reveal says a lot about where Subaru thinks the market is heading. It did not launch this as a niche electric experiment; it launched it as a seven-seat family vehicle with all-wheel drive, towing, fast charging, and road-trip range, which is the part of the electric market where buyers have been hardest to win.
