Guy Ritchie's In the Grey
Guy Ritchie's thriller "In the Grey" starring Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza Gonzalez hits theaters May 15. The first look generated 19,227 likes on social media. Ritchie returns to his signature crime thriller style with an A-list cast.
The film's plot centers on two extraction specialists, played by Cavill and Gyllenhaal, tasked with devising an escape for a high-level negotiator portrayed by González. Another synopsis describes them as a covert team sent to retrieve a billion-dollar fortune stolen by a ruthless despot, a mission that spirals into a war of strategy and survival. "In the Grey" reunites Ritchie with all three of its lead actors. Henry Cavill previously worked with the director on "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." Jake Gyllenhaal starred in Ritchie's 2023 film "The Covenant," while Eiza González also appeared in "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." The supporting cast includes Rosamund Pike ("Gone Girl"), Fisher Stevens ("Succession"), and Carlos Bardem. This project also marks a reunion for Gyllenhaal and González, who previously co-starred in Michael Bay's 2022 thriller "Ambulance." Principal photography took place in the fall of 2023 in Spain's Canary Islands. Filming locations included the island of Tenerife, using sites like the Real Casino de Tenerife and the coastal village of San Andrés. The production was granted an interim agreement that allowed filming to proceed during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The movie's path to the screen included several delays. Originally slated for a January 2025 release with Lionsgate distributing, it was pulled from the schedule due to post-production running long. Production company Black Bear Pictures then took over U.S. distribution, first setting an April 2026 date before settling on the current May release.
