Salmon Recalled Over Listeria Fears
Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. has recalled a lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected products were distributed through BJ’s Wholesale Club.
The recall was initiated after a random sample collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested positive for the bacteria. Slade Gorton & Co. is now investigating the source of the contamination to prevent future occurrences. This recall specifically affects lot number 3896 of the Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon, which is sold in 2-pound bags. The UPC code for the recalled product is 888670025963, which can be found on the reverse of the bag below the nutrition facts panel. The affected salmon was sold between January 31 and February 7, 2026, at BJ's Wholesale Club stores in seven states. The states are Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. As of the recall announcement, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this salmon. Listeria infection can cause short-term symptoms like fever, headache, and nausea in healthy individuals, but it poses a more serious risk for pregnant women, potentially leading to miscarriages and stillbirths. It can take up to 70 days for symptoms to develop after exposure. BJ's Wholesale Club is in the process of directly notifying members who may have purchased the recalled salmon. Consumers with the affected product can contact Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. for a full refund and instructions on what to do with the product.
