Miami Open faces early withdrawals, injury watch
Six players have withdrawn from the Miami Open, and Coco Gauff's participation is uncertain after a forearm injury reported. All top 32 WTA players are still scheduled to participate said.
Three players have withdrawn from both the Indian Wells and Miami Open in the men's and women's singles events. The Miami Open, the second leg of the "Sunshine Double," is scheduled for March 17-29. Holger Rune, Tallon Griekspoor, and Jaume Munar have withdrawn from the ATP Miami Open. Rune has been out since the end of last year due to an Achilles injury, while Griekspoor sustained an injury during his Dubai run. Lois Boisson, Oleksandra Oliynykova, and Wang Yafan have withdrawn from the WTA Miami Open. Coco Gauff's participation is in doubt after she retired from her Indian Wells match due to a nerve-related arm injury. Gauff described the pain as feeling like "fireworks" in her arm. She is scheduled for an MRI to determine the extent of the injury but hopes to be fine for Miami. The Miami Open WTA singles main draw will feature 96 players, including 76 direct entrants, 12 qualifiers, and 8 wildcards. Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion, and Iga Swiatek, another former champion, are scheduled to participate. Karolina Pliskova has used a special ranking to enter the Miami Open. If Gauff withdraws, it would be the first time since 2021 that the Miami Open has proceeded without its biggest local draw. Katie Boulter, who replaced Boisson in the main draw, could make a deep run.
