Chargers Sign FB Alec Ingold

The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million deal with free agent fullback Alec Ingold. The signing is aimed at strengthening the team's run game. Ingold is also seen as a key addition for his locker room leadership as the NFL free agency period kicks off.

Ingold's career trajectory showcases a significant rise in value, beginning as an undrafted free agent in 2019 with the Raiders on a three-year, $1.765 million contract. Prior to his new Chargers deal, he signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Miami Dolphins in 2022, followed by a three-year extension in 2023. The move reunites Ingold with Chargers Offensive Coordinator Mike McDaniel, who was his head coach during his four seasons in Miami. During that time, Ingold was a key blocker for the Dolphins' offense, which led the NFL in total offense in 2023. In 2023, Ingold earned his first career Pro Bowl selection. Throughout his career, he has helped pave the way for four individual 1,000-yard rushing seasons, including for Josh Jacobs during his 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign. Beyond his on-field performance, Ingold is a three-time team nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award—once with the Raiders (2020) and twice with the Dolphins (2023, 2024). His leadership has also been recognized with the Don Shula Leadership Award and the Ed Block Courage Award, both voted on by his teammates. Ingold was the only true fullback invited to the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine after a college career at Wisconsin where he transitioned from linebacker. Before his rookie season, he had secured an internship with Oracle as a fallback plan in case his professional football career did not materialize.
