Legrand Acquires Kratos for AI Infrastructure
Legrand, a specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures, has announced the acquisition of Kratos Industries. The company also made a strategic investment in liquid cooling firm Accelsius. These moves are intended to strengthen Legrand's portfolio for power and thermal management to better support AI-ready data center infrastructure.
- Kratos Industries, based in Arvada, Colorado, manufactures low-voltage switchboards and medium-voltage switchgear, which are critical components for a data center's main power infrastructure, often referred to as the "gray space". - Founded in 2020, Kratos Industries grew to approximately $100 million in annual sales with about 325 employees by the time of the acquisition. - The investment in Accelsius gives Legrand access to two-phase direct-to-chip liquid cooling, a technology where a specialized dielectric fluid boils into vapor on the processor's surface to absorb heat, a process far more efficient than traditional air or single-phase water cooling. - The increasing power consumption of AI-specific processors, such as GPUs that can have ten times the heat density of a clothes iron, is making advanced liquid cooling a necessity to prevent overheating and performance degradation. - This move is part of a larger strategic push into the data center market for Legrand, which has conducted numerous acquisitions in recent years; the data center segment grew to represent over 25% of the company's €9.48 billion revenue in 2025. - In 2025 alone, Legrand announced seven acquisitions in the energy and digital sectors, which together represent an additional €500 million in annualized revenue. - The Kratos acquisition specifically expands Legrand’s portfolio from the data hall "white space" solutions like busways and rack PDUs into the facility-level "gray space" power systems.
