2026 Electric SUVs Heat Up

Rivian plans to begin production of customer R2 units this spring, expanding into more affordable price segments. The first R2 version available will be a dual-motor Performance model with 656 hp and an estimated 330 miles of range. The R2 Performance model, including a Launch Package, is priced at $57,990. Lucid's midsize platform will underpin multiple SUVs, with the Cosmos and Earth models leading the charge. The Lucid Cosmos will be the first to use the EV maker's new mid-size platform, with a reveal this summer and a starting price under $50,000. The Lucid Earth will follow a year later with a unique design, and an off-road-focused SUV will follow. Lucid's midsize EVs will feature the new Atlas drive unit, which is 23% lighter and has 30% fewer parts than their current drive unit. Lucid is also planning a two-seat robotaxi concept called Lunar, based on a shortened mid-size platform. Uber has committed to potentially using Lucid's mid-size vehicles at a similar scale to the Gravity robotaxi program.
