Monaco Shocks PSG 3-1
AS Monaco stunned PSG 3-1 in Ligue 1, with strong showings from Brazilians Vanderson and Henrique (both >7.0 rating) against William Pacho. The upset result demonstrates Monaco's growing strength and PSG's vulnerability in domestic competition despite their star-studded lineup.
The victory for Monaco marked their fourth consecutive win in Ligue 1, a run of form that has propelled them into contention for a European competition spot. This result also handed PSG their first home defeat of the entire league season, breaking an unbeaten streak at the Parc des Princes. Monaco's goals came from Maghnes Akliouche, Aleksandr Golovin, and Folarin Balogun. Akliouche's opener in the 27th minute was a direct result of a mistake by PSG's Warren Zaïre-Emery, who was dispossessed in his own penalty area. Golovin scored just ten minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute. Despite PSG enjoying the majority of possession, they struggled to create clear-cut chances, managing only 5 shots on target out of 19 attempts. Bradley Barcola scored PSG's lone goal in the 71st minute, but Monaco quickly restored their two-goal advantage just two minutes later through Balogun's long-range strike. This victory secured a league double for Monaco over PSG for the season, making them one of only a few clubs to achieve this feat since PSG's acquisition by QSI in 2011. The win was not without its costs for Monaco, as both of their influential Brazilian full-backs, Vanderson and Caio Henrique, were forced to leave the match with hamstring injuries. Vanderson was substituted in the 15th minute, followed by Henrique in the 54th. Even with this loss in the 25th round of the season, PSG remained at the top of the Ligue 1 table with 57 points. However, the defeat reduced their lead over second-place RC Lens. For their part, the crucial three points saw Monaco climb to fifth place in the standings.
