Armadin Launches with $189.9M Funding
AI-native cybersecurity firm Armadin launched with a whopping $189.9M in seed and Series A funding. Led by Kevin Mandia, the company is focused on building an "autonomous, agentic attacker swarm" to redefine AI-era defense.
Armadin's launch comes amid rising concerns about AI's potential to amplify cyberattacks. OpenAI cautioned that its advanced models could lower the skill and time needed for such attacks. A Stanford study showed AI agents outperforming professional penetration testers in identifying network vulnerabilities. Kevin Mandia, Armadin's leader, is a cybersecurity veteran, having founded Mandiant, which Google acquired for $5.4 billion in 2022. He served as Mandiant's CEO until the acquisition. Mandia also co-founded venture capital firm Ballistic Ventures in 2021. Prior to Mandiant, Mandia served as a computer security officer at the Pentagon and a special agent in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He also held positions at Sytex (acquired by Lockheed Martin) and Foundstone (acquired by McAfee). Armadin aims to automate security testing and proactively identify vulnerabilities using AI. Mandia has stated that AI will be used to execute 80-90% of tactical operations autonomously. He predicted the world was only a year away from an AI agent enabled cyberattack in May of 2025. The initial $24 million seed funding came from Ballistic Ventures. Follow-on funding discussions included Accel, GV, and Kleiner Perkins. The company's valuation could exceed $600 million.
