HawkEye 360 Wins $75M European Defense Contract
Electronic warfare data firm HawkEye 360 announced it was selected by a European Ministry of Defense for a program valued at up to $75 million. The award reflects sustained European investment in sophisticated electronic warfare and data analytics capabilities.
The Virginia-based company operates a unique constellation of satellites that fly in clusters of three. These trios work together to triangulate the source of a wide range of radio frequency (RF) signals on the ground, from VHF radios and maritime radar to satellite phones and GPS jammers. This specific European deal provides the unnamed Ministry of Defense with a subscription to HawkEye 360's "Air Defense and GPS Interference Monitoring" services. This gives the client a consistent, space-down view of air defense activity and potential electronic warfare threats in areas they designate as critical. While a significant win in Europe, this follows a pattern of major government contracts for the firm. HawkEye 360 holds numerous agreements with U.S. agencies, including the National Reconnaissance Office, the U.S. Navy, and an indefinite delivery contract with the Air Force's Advanced Battle Management System program valued at up to $950 million. The company's capabilities are expanding as it builds out its satellite network. HawkEye 360 currently has over 30 satellites in orbit and plans to grow its constellation to 60 satellites, organized into 20 clusters. This expansion is aimed at increasing the frequency of revisits over any point on Earth, making its data more timely for customers. The contract reflects a broader trend of rising defense investment in space-based intelligence. The global market for space-based RF and microwave technology is projected to grow significantly, driven by demand for resilient communications and advanced situational awareness in contested environments.
