Battlefield 6 Developer Cites Map Limits
Following the launch of Season 2 for *Battlefield 6*, developer DICE and publisher EA have publicly acknowledged they are unable to deliver more than two new maps per season. The limitation is attributed to the complexity and resource demands of large-scale map design.
- *Battlefield 2042* launched with seven new maps designed to accommodate the series' new 128-player count, a jump from the previous standard of 64 players. - The game's post-launch support began with a slower content cadence than previous titles; Season 1 provided only one new map, with subsequent seasons for the first two years also adding only one new map each. - In addition to creating new seasonal maps, developer DICE dedicated significant resources to completely reworking the original seven launch maps to address widespread player feedback about excessive size, lack of cover, and poor infantry flow. - The design focus for some newer maps shifted away from the initial 128-player target. The Season 5 map, "Reclaimed," for instance, was intentionally designed for 64-player modes. - This content delivery stands in contrast to past titles in the franchise. *Battlefield 4*, for example, delivered 12 new maps within a similar post-launch timeframe, while *Battlefield 1*'s first DLC pack alone contained six maps. - Development for the "Hazard Zone" game mode was discontinued after launch, allowing the team to focus resources on the core All-Out Warfare modes and maps.
