Fresh R&B Drops Hit Streaming
VIBE Magazine highlighted key New Music Friday releases including Flying Lotus' 'Big Mama', Gnarls Barkley's 'Atlanta', and Ty Dolla $ign's 'girl music vol. 1' EP featuring Leon Thomas and Brandy. TatianaSnead curated additional R&B rotations like Alicia Creti's MINDFIELDS and singles from Nia Smith & DESTIN CONRAD's 'Tough' and Ayra Starr's 'Where Do We Go'. Cash Cobain's 'WISH' is also being touted for playlists.
Gnarls Barkley's "Atlanta" marks the duo's first album in 18 years and is being billed as their final project together. The album sees CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse exploring themes of self-discovery through a blend of pop and alternative sounds. The project is described as a "full circle moment" and a "gospel-tinted sonic carnival," moving from sentimental self-reflection to funk anthems. Flying Lotus's 7-track EP, 'Big Mama', is described as an "experimental, maximalist, hyperfast, electronic burst of energy." The project was created over two months after he finished scoring his film *Ash* and is his debut release on his own Brainfeeder label. He aimed for the EP to feel like being "shot out of a cannon," with unpredictable and explosive energy. Ty Dolla $ign's 'girl music vol. 1' EP is a deliberate return to his R&B roots, inspired by a conversation at a New York City dinner about the kind of music women want to hear. The six-track project features collaborations with R&B veterans like Ronald Isley and Brandy, aiming for a sound with live band arrangements and a focus on simplicity and musicality. This release follows his 2025 album, *TYCOON*. Nigerian artist Ayra Starr's new single, 'Where Do We Go', is her first solo release since her 2025 hit 'Who's That Girl' featuring Rema. The track is described as having a "dark, narcotic Afro-electronic brew" and continues the momentum from a breakthrough year in 2025 that saw her single 'Rush' amass over 500 million Spotify plays. Montreal-born Alicia Creti's new project, 'MINDFIELDS', delves into themes of self-discovery and acceptance, confronting insecurities and fears. Creti first gained viral attention on TikTok with her soulful covers before signing with Atlantic Records. Her music is described as soulful and heartfelt, drawing inspiration from artists who write and sing from a raw, real place. The collaboration 'Tough' brings together South London's rising soul singer Nia Smith and Grammy-nominated artist DESTIN CONRAD. Smith, a BRIT School alumna, gained early buzz supporting artists like SZA and Tems, with her sound blending classic soul with reggae and dancehall influences from her Caribbean heritage. Conrad first built a following on the social media platform Vine before earning a Grammy nomination for his 2025 debut album, *Love on Digital*. Bronx rapper and producer Cash Cobain's new single 'WISH' continues to build on his signature "sexy drill" sound. The subgenre, pioneered by Cobain, infuses the menacing sonics of drill with R&B, pop, and Jersey club samples, shifting the lyrical focus from street violence to sex and having a good time. The new track samples Three 6 Mafia's 1997 classic "Late Nite Tip".
