Fremont to Host FOG Holi Festival

The upcoming celebration is organized by the Federation of Indo-Americans of Northern California (FIA), a non-profit organization that has been active in the Bay Area for over three decades. Beyond the Holi festival, the FIA also hosts the annual Festival of India and Parade, a tradition in Fremont for the last 30 years, aimed at nurturing the cultural values of the Indian-American community. Holi itself is an ancient Hindu festival that celebrates the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. It marks a time to end past conflicts, forgive others, and start fresh. The throwing of colors is rooted in the story of Krishna, who enjoyed coloring his consort Radha and other gopis. Previous FOG Holi events at the same Washington High School venue have drawn significant crowds, with over 7,000 people attending the 2024 celebration. The event is known for its vibrant atmosphere, featuring live DJs, dance performances, and food, creating a large-scale community gathering. Attendees are encouraged to wear white to best display the vibrant powders. For safety and environmental reasons, only organic, eco-friendly colors are permitted for play at the festival, and outside colors are not allowed. The festival holds deep spiritual meaning, symbolizing a time to let go of negativity and embrace positivity. The bonfire ceremony, known as Holika Dahan, which often takes place the night before, represents the burning away of evil and the purification of the inner self. This year's event continues the tradition of being a family-friendly affair with free admission for children under four. In addition to the colorful fun, the celebration will feature nonstop Bollywood music and dance performances by top local studios. Free parking is also available for attendees.
