Defense AI Firm Gallatin Opens Austin Office

Defense logistics software company Gallatin AI announced the opening of an engineering and delivery hub in Austin, Texas. The new office is located near Fort Hood and key Army sustainment commands, with plans to hire for software, AI/ML, and delivery roles.

Gallatin AI was founded in 2024 by CEO Woody Glier, an alum of Palantir and Scale AI, alongside CTO Daniel Buchmueller and CPO Brian Ballard, who bring experience from the Department of Defense, Amazon, and other tech firms. The company emerged from stealth in April 2025 with $15 million in seed funding led by 8VC, with participation from firms like Silent Ventures and Moonshots Capital. The company’s flagship product, Navigator, is an AI-powered platform designed to modernize military logistics, which the CEO has stated often relies on "whiteboards, on clipboards," with Microsoft Excel being considered "state of the art." Navigator provides real-time predictive insights for resupply missions, aiming to shift logistics from a reactive to a proactive model by anticipating supply needs and potential shortages. Gallatin's software is built in partnership with Palantir Foundry, making it compatible with existing Department of Defense platforms like Maven and Vantage. This integration is designed to accelerate development and deployment, allowing Gallatin to deliver new capabilities in months instead of years. The platform is also now enabled for native deployment in existing Palantir environments, allowing for seamless data interoperability. To enhance its reach and expertise, Gallatin AI has partnered with Booz Allen Hamilton. This collaboration provides Gallatin with access to Booz Allen's network of over 1,100 logisticians and its experience in delivering technical solutions to the DoD, aiming to accelerate Navigator's impact in contested environments. The new Austin office strategically places Gallatin near key Army commands at Fort Hood (renamed Fort Cavazos in 2025). These include the 13th Armored Corps Sustainment Command, which plans and executes sustainment operations for the III Armored Corps and is capable of deploying worldwide on short notice. Also at Fort Hood is the 407th Army Field Support Brigade, which provides and synchronizes sustainment for active duty, Reserve, and National Guard units. The brigade directly supports the III Armored Corps and is regionally aligned with U.S. Southern Command. Austin is a rapidly growing hub for defense technology, with over 120 defense companies and a 24.7% share of the local GDP from the tech sector. The city is home to Army Futures Command, established in 2018 to lead the Army's modernization efforts, and a cluster of DoD innovation entities like the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and Army Applications Laboratory, sometimes referred to as a "mini-Pentagon." Gallatin has already gained traction within the defense acquisition ecosystem. Its Navigator platform has achieved "Awardable" status on the DoD's Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace, a program designed to fast-track the procurement of AI and data analytics capabilities. The company was also awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract in September 2025 to explore generative AI for humanitarian and disaster relief logistics.
