Pixelcut Rebrands to Pixa
The popular AI creative platform Pixelcut has rebranded to Pixa. The company, used by over 15 million people monthly, also moved its website to Pixa.com. The move signals a new phase for the company as it launches a new AI-powered creative workspace.
The company, now named Pixa, was founded five years ago by Dominique Yahyavi and Prasanth Veerina. It originated as a simple background removal tool before evolving into a broader AI-powered creative suite. The Oakland-based startup, legally incorporated as PIXELCUT INC. in January 2023, raised a $250K seed round in late 2022. The rebranding from Pixelcut reflects a shift from a single-function utility to an all-in-one creative workspace. The founders aim to eliminate the need for users to juggle multiple AI tools by providing a single, integrated platform for producing visuals. The platform now processes over 100 million images each month. Pixa's new workspace functions as an intelligent creative engine, using an AI agent to automatically select the right tools based on user prompts in natural language. It consolidates proprietary features like image expansion and a new video background remover with industry models like ChatGPT Image and Flux Pro into one interface. This move places Pixa in the rapidly expanding AI creativity market, which was valued at over $13 billion in 2024. The company competes with other AI photo editing specialists like PhotoRoom and Spyne, as well as offerings from major tech players such as Adobe and Google.
