LA County Library is marking National Library Week with branch events across Los Angeles County through Saturday, April 25, including book discussions, crafts, storytimes, and mindfulness programs. (lacountylibrary.org) The library system said the special programs run April 20–25, 2026, and are built around this year’s theme, “Find Your Joy.” County Librarian and Director Dr. Skye Patrick said the week is meant to spotlight reading, learning, self-expression, and community connection. (lacountylibrary.org) Featured programs listed by the library include a “They Called Us Enemy” book club on Tuesday, April 21, a virtual author talk with Miranda Cowley Heller on Wednesday, April 22, a Japanese American watercolor workshop that evening, a pressed-flower art program on Thursday, April 23, and a family storytelling event on Saturday, April 25. (lacountylibrary.org) The county’s National Library Week page says events are spread across local branches, with examples including a preschool art session at Charter Oak Library on April 21 and a “Planting Joy” program for children at Lomita Library on April 22. The same page says Friends of the Library groups are also holding book, DVD, and music sales at select locations. (lacountylibrary.org) National Library Week itself runs April 19–25 this year and is sponsored by the American Library Association, which has observed it each April since 1958. The 2026 national theme is also “Find Your Joy at the Library.” (ala.org; lacountylibrary.org) LA County Library is tying this week’s programming to other spring initiatives already underway, including “One Book, One Coast,” a regional reading campaign centered this year on George Takei’s graphic memoir “They Called Us Enemy.” The library’s April programs page says the title has been available on Libby with unlimited downloads and no waits or holds since April 1, ahead of a May 31 author talk at East Los Angeles Library. (lacountylibrary.org) The library’s National Library Week page also frames the week around everyday services, including free access to information, branch programs, and local library spaces. Patrick said residents can use the library to borrow materials, learn skills, use Wi‑Fi, or find a quiet place to read and reflect.
