Genies Partners with King Records for AI Companions

AI avatar technology company Genies has partnered with Japanese music and entertainment firm King Records. The collaboration aims to transform globally recognized characters from King Records' intellectual property into interactive AI companions within the Genies platform.

- Genies, founded in 2017 by CEO Akash Nigam, who dropped out of the University of Michigan, is valued at over $1 billion and has raised $276 million in funding. Key investors include Silver Lake, BOND, and former Disney CEO Bob Iger, who is also on the company's board. - The company provides a software development kit (SDK) and, more recently, an "Avatar Framework" that enables developers to integrate customizable avatars, digital fashion, and AI companions into their own applications and games. This includes tools for avatar autogeneration from photos or text prompts and a marketplace for user-generated content. - Genies has a partnership with Unity, a leading game development platform, to make its Smart Avatar Framework and user-generated content tools available to Unity developers. This integration is designed to streamline character creation and enable new types of AI-driven gameplay. - Prior to the King Records deal, Genies established itself as the "official avatar and digital goods NFT provider" for Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, claiming 99% of the celebrity avatar market share. They have created avatars for artists like Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Migos. - The AI companions, which Genies calls "Smart Avatars," are designed with memory, personality, and behavioral AI, allowing them to act as dynamic, interactive characters in games and other digital experiences. The company's vision is to build the "visual layer for large language models," making AI more relatable. - King Records is a major Japanese music and anime company, a subsidiary of the publishing giant Kodansha. This partnership is a significant move for Genies into the Japanese market, which has a strong existing affinity for character-based relationships.
