Tourism leaders in the Mediterranean are shifting strategy from mass tourism to "regenerative growth" to combat overtourism. The Mediterranean Blue Tourism Flagship Initiative now focuses on policy innovation and environmental stewardship. Spain, Italy, and Greece have joined forces on a strategy combining climate action and nature protection.
- The Mediterranean is the world's leading tourism region, and visitor numbers are projected to grow from 360 million annually to over 500 million by 2030.
