Crypto Platform Phemex Integrates Tokenized Stocks

Cryptocurrency platform Phemex has announced the full integration of tokenized stock offerings from Ondo Finance. The move allows Phemex users to gain exposure to real-world assets (RWAs) through blockchain technology. The company stated the integration positions it as a leader in the growing RWA sector of the digital asset market.

- The integration makes 14 of Ondo Finance's tokenized traditional assets available to Phemex's more than 10 million users. - Initial offerings include tokenized shares of major tech companies like NVIDIA, Tesla, Apple, and Amazon, as well as ETFs that track the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 indexes. - Ondo Finance's model involves fully backing each token with a real share held in custody, with liquidity sourced directly from traditional stock markets like the NYSE and Nasdaq to minimize slippage. - This partnership is part of a larger trend of tokenizing Real-World Assets (RWA), which aims to blend the stability of traditional finance with the 24/7 liquidity and accessibility of crypto. - Ondo Finance is a major issuer in the tokenized U.S. Treasuries market and is developing its own Layer 1 blockchain, Ondo Chain, specifically for institutional-grade asset tokenization. - Tokenized stocks provide global users access to U.S. equities without needing a traditional U.S. brokerage account and allow for fractional ownership of high-priced shares. - The move reflects a broader industry shift, with traditional exchanges like Nasdaq filing proposals with the SEC to formally allow the trading of tokenized securities on their platforms.
