Bam Joins Wade in Heat History

Bam Adebayo became only the second player in Miami Heat franchise history to reach 10,000 career points, joining Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade. The milestone comes as Miami beat Detroit 121-110 with Tyler Herro adding 25 points — remarkable growth for a player once drafted primarily for defense.

When Miami drafted a 19-year-old Bam Adebayo out of Kentucky in 2017, scouting reports praised his athleticism, defense, and potential as a "rim protector" and "lob threat." His offensive game was a concern, with suggestions he might spend his first year developing on the taxi squad. Adebayo's journey from a defensive specialist to a primary scoring option has been marked by steady improvement. He is now on pace to average at least 18 points per game for the sixth consecutive season, a testament to the offensive game he has built. In the milestone-clinching game against Detroit, he even matched his career-high with four 3-pointers. While Adebayo joins Dwyane Wade as the only Heat players to score 10,000 points, he has a long way to go to catch the franchise leader. Wade sits comfortably at the top of the Heat's all-time scoring list with 21,556 career points. Next on Adebayo's list of franchise milestones is the all-time rebounding record. He currently trails only Udonis Haslem, the player he replaced as team captain, for the top spot in Heat history.
