Michelin chef brings 'breakfast bombs' to San Jose

Michelin-starred chef Matt McNamara is bringing his "Pretty Good Advice" concept—seasonal, farm-to-counter $10 breakfast sandwiches—to downtown San Jose.

McNamara's move to accessible cuisine stems from a desire to share his farm's bounty with a wider audience, rather than limiting it to a pricey tasting menu. He aims to provide the community with high-quality food at an approachable price point. Pretty Good Advice is known for its vegetarian-leaning menu, with vegan options available, emphasizing seasonal, fresh, and locally grown ingredients. The menu is driven by McNamara's 83-acre farm in the Santa Cruz Mountains, ensuring a constantly evolving selection based on harvests. The San Jose location, which opened March 11, 2026, is at 125 Paseo de Antonio, and operates weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. McNamara, a South Bay native, selected San Jose for its vibrant food scene and appreciation for vegetarian options. The "Spicy Boy" breakfast sandwich, featuring a fried egg, roasted jalapeños, caramelized onion, and spicy aioli on ciabatta, is a customer favorite. Other menu items include seasonal salads, house-baked breads, and preserves made from the farm's surplus.
