Ebony Alert Issued for 3 Missing Teens

An Ebony Alert has been issued in San Leandro, California, for three teenagers who have gone missing. Law enforcement is asking for the public's help in locating them.

The Ebony Alert is a new system implemented in California on January 1, 2024, designed to help locate missing Black youth and young women. This alert is specifically for Black individuals between the ages of 12 and 25 who have gone missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances. The system was created to address the disproportionate number of missing Black children who do not meet the strict criteria for an Amber Alert. State Senator Steven Bradford authored the bill that established the Ebony Alert, highlighting that Black children and young women are overrepresented on missing persons lists. Nationally, Black individuals account for roughly 39% of missing children cases, despite making up a much smaller percentage of the total population. The Ebony Alert aims to provide law enforcement with more resources and generate more media attention for these cases. Unlike an Amber Alert, which typically requires confirmation of an abduction, an Ebony Alert can be issued if the missing person is believed to be in danger due to their age, health, or other perilous circumstances. This includes situations where the individual may be a victim of trafficking. In 2020, a report found that 40% of sex trafficking victims were identified as Black women. The three teenagers who are the subject of the current Ebony Alert in San Leandro are Kallyah Jones, 17, Xyer Thomas, 16, and London Scott, 15. They were last seen together on the evening of Friday, March 6, 2026, near 163rd Avenue and East 14th Street. Authorities have released their descriptions and the clothing they were last seen wearing, and are asking for the public's assistance in locating them.
