Edwards and Duren Win Weekly Honors
Anthony Edwards and Jalen Duren were named NBA Players of the Week for their standout performances. Duren's recognition follows his recent 33-point, 16-rebound game for Detroit, while Edwards continues his dynamic scoring for Minnesota. The awards highlight the league's youth movement as both players showcase the next generation of NBA talent.
This marks the third career Player of the Week award for Anthony Edwards, who previously won for the weeks of March 17, 2025, and November 13, 2023. His performance was central to the Timberwolves' perfect 3-0 record during the award period, all of which were road wins. Edwards averaged 28.7 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.3 rebounds for the week of February 23 through March 1. Key performances included a 34-point game in a 124-121 victory over Portland and a crucial late three-pointer to seal a 94-88 win against the Clippers. The undefeated week, capped by a 117-108 win in Denver, allowed the Timberwolves to leapfrog the Nuggets in the standings, moving into fourth place in the Western Conference. The other nominees for the award in the West were Saddiq Bey, Luka Doncic, Kevin Durant, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. For Jalen Duren, this is the first Player of the Week honor of his career. The recognition comes during a breakout season that has positioned him as a contender for the NBA's Most Improved Player award. Duren powered the Detroit Pistons to a 3-1 record for the week while averaging 25.8 points and 13.8 rebounds. In a game against Cleveland, he tied his career-high with 33 points and added 16 rebounds, becoming only the second player in Pistons history, after Bob Lanier, to achieve those numbers in a single game. The successful week has helped the Pistons solidify their position as the top team in the NBA with a 45-14 record. Duren was selected over a field of Eastern Conference nominees that included his own teammate Cade Cunningham, as well as Jalen Brunson, Jonathan Kuminga, Tyrese Maxey, and Brandon Miller.
