Atlantic Salmon Recalled at BJ's Over Listeria
One lot of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club has been recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers to check their purchases and avoid consuming the affected product.
The recall affects 2-pound bags of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon with lot number 3896 and UPC code 888670025963. The products were sold between January 31 and February 7, 2026, at BJ's Wholesale Club stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The potential contamination was discovered after a random sample collected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested positive for *Listeria monocytogenes*. The distributor, Slade Gorton & Co., Inc., is investigating the source of the contamination and has implemented preventative measures. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. *Listeria monocytogenes* is a bacterium that can survive and grow even in refrigerated conditions. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The infection can be particularly dangerous for certain vulnerable groups. It poses a serious risk to pregnant women, who may experience miscarriages and stillbirths. Older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems are also at a higher risk of severe illness. Consumers who purchased the recalled salmon are advised not to eat it. They can contact Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. at 1-888-628-0730 for instructions on how to get a full refund and dispose of the product. BJ's is also directly contacting members who may have purchased the affected salmon.
