HUMAN MADE Opens Kobe Store

Japanese streetwear cult label HUMAN MADE has launched its third Kansai region store in Kobe, cementing the brand's expansion and continued influence on both Japanese and global streetwear scenes. The new location represents HUMAN MADE's growing retail footprint in Japan's fashion capitals.

The new Kobe store is housed in the historic Chartered Building, a landmark originally completed in 1938 as the British Chartered Bank. The interior design pays homage to the building's banking past while incorporating HUMAN MADE's signature vintage Americana aesthetic. The store is located in the Motomachi area within Kobe's former foreign settlement, a district known for its unique historical atmosphere. To celebrate the opening, an exclusive nine-piece capsule collection was released. The collection features a unique bull graphic and a custom heart logo specific to the Kobe location. Key items include a zip-up work jacket, a "Tsuriami" sweatshirt, and an animal graphic t-shirt, alongside accessories like a bank pouch and a gold bar paperweight, thematically linked to the building's history. HUMAN MADE was founded in 2010 by Nigo, the influential Japanese designer also known for creating A Bathing Ape (BAPE). The brand's philosophy is "The Future is in the Past," drawing inspiration from vintage American workwear and Nigo's personal collection. It is known for its meticulous craftsmanship and playful graphics. The brand is operated by HUMAN MADE Inc., which changed its name from Otsumo Co., Ltd. in May 2024. This move was made to unify the brand and company name and to further build its global value. Nigo now serves as the Creative Director, focusing solely on the company's creative efforts. Beyond its Japanese retail presence in cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, HUMAN MADE has a global reach, with products available in 28 countries and regions. The company recently went public with a successful IPO on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in late 2025, signaling a new phase of expansion. The brand frequently collaborates with major international names. High-profile partnerships have included Adidas, Kaws, and Levi's, solidifying its position in the global streetwear scene. Long-time collaborator Pharrell Williams has been a significant supporter since the brand's inception.
