Dublin Police Arrest Seven in Crime Crackdown
Police in Dublin arrested seven individuals linked to organized crime gangs operating throughout Ireland. The arrests are part of an ongoing Garda operation targeting organized crime in the region. Authorities believe the move will significantly disrupt the gangs' operations.
- The arrests were part of a nationwide investigation by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau targeting a criminal group suspected of carrying out serious, drug-related intimidation attacks across the country. - During the operation, which included searches of 16 homes and businesses, authorities seized 12 vehicles, some with hidden compartments. - In addition to the vehicles, investigators confiscated €32,668 in cash, 2 kilograms of cannabis, and various electronic devices, including phones and laptops. - The operation involved multiple Garda units, including the Emergency Response Unit, the Garda Dog Unit, the Garda National Immigration Bureau, and regional crime and drug units from Dublin, Cork, Tipperary, Limerick, and Carlow/Kilkenny. - Of the seven people arrested (six men and one woman in their 30s and 40s), four have been released without charge pending a file being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, while three men remain in custody. - This crackdown follows other recent major Garda operations, including the January 2026 arrest of a key figure in the "Family" crime gang, which has become a primary target for law enforcement and is believed to have replaced the Kinahan cartel as the largest drug gang in Ireland. - Separately on February 19, an intelligence-led operation involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Revenue Customs Service resulted in the seizure of 36.5kg of cannabis, valued at €730,000, after stopping a van in Tallaght.
