OpenAI Closes Record $110B Funding Round

OpenAI has closed a massive $110 billion funding round, one of the largest ever for a private company, pushing its valuation to $730 billion. The round was led by Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank. As part of the deal, Amazon Web Services will become the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI's 'Frontier' models, aiming to accelerate enterprise adoption.

This record financing round includes a $50 billion commitment from Amazon, $30 billion from Nvidia, and another $30 billion from SoftBank. Amazon's contribution, which begins with an initial $15 billion, is the largest single investment the company has ever made in another firm. The new capital catapults OpenAI's post-money valuation to roughly $840 billion. This represents a dramatic acceleration from its $300 billion valuation in March 2025 and a $500 billion valuation from a share sale in October 2025. The deal marks a significant strategic shift in cloud partnerships. While Microsoft Azure has been OpenAI's long-standing exclusive cloud provider, the new AWS partnership focuses specifically on the 'Frontier' enterprise platform. Microsoft remains a crucial partner with over $13 billion previously invested and an estimated 27% stake in the company. SoftBank's new $30 billion investment boosts its cumulative funding of OpenAI to $64.6 billion. Chairman Masayoshi Son noted the deal helps advance SoftBank's own strategy for developing Artificial Superintelligence (ASI). OpenAI's 'Frontier' platform is designed for enterprise use, allowing companies to build and manage teams of AI agents that can perform complex work. These agents connect to a company's internal data systems, like CRMs, to create an "institutional memory" for automating workflows in areas like finance and customer support. A significant portion of the funding is earmarked for securing massive-scale computing power. OpenAI has expanded its compute agreements, committing to use 2 gigawatts of AWS's custom Trainium AI accelerator chips to power its new enterprise services.
