The Whitney Biennial 2026 opened March 8, featuring 15 art-and-technology practitioners Whitney Biennial 2026 opened March 8. It has free entry on Second Sundays through August 23.
The 2026 Biennial, the 82nd edition, showcases 56 artists, duos, and collectives. This year's exhibition explores various forms of "relationality," including family ties, geopolitical issues, and technological connections. Several artists place Indigenous histories and relationships to the land at the center of their work. Teresa Baker, a Mandan and Hidatsa artist, creates tactile compositions evoking the textures of terrain. Anna Tsouhlarakis approaches similar questions through sculpture and installation, drawing on symbolic objects and humor. The Biennial marks the launch of expanded free admission programs, with free entry for visitors 25 and under every day. Free admission is also available every Friday from 5–10 pm, with DJs and a pop-up bar. The museum also offers free admission and special programming on the second Sunday of each month. Themes of family, friendship, geopolitics, and technological connection are at the forefront. The exhibition also explores the country's disintegrating internal systems, such as healthcare, justice, and the environment. Several technology-infused works explore the faded dream of an internet that would democratize information and forge human connection.
