AI Tools for PMs Get Open-Source Boost
A new library of over 100 open-source agentic AI skills and plugins for product managers has been released. The tools embed popular PM frameworks from figures like Teresa Torres and Marty Cagan directly into AI workflows, aiming to automate tasks like user research and metrics analysis.
The new open-source library, dubbed the "PM Skills Marketplace," offers a collection of 65 product management skills and 36 chained workflows, accessible through 8 plugins for the AI assistant Claude. This resource, available on GitHub, aims to provide structured, framework-based guidance directly within AI workflows, moving beyond simple text generation. The tools are designed to embed established product management methodologies directly into a PM's daily tasks. Frameworks from Teresa Torres' "Continuous Discovery Habits" and Marty Cagan's "Inspired" are encoded into the skills, guiding users through processes like assumption mapping and strategic planning step-by-step. These "agentic AI" skills go beyond simple chatbots by planning and executing multi-step actions. For product managers, this translates to automating complex workflows, such as generating a Product Requirement Document (PRD) based on an email and Jira backlog, or having a swarm of AI agents collaborate on ideation. The open-source nature of the library allows for community contributions and transparency, enabling teams to adapt and build upon the tools. This aligns with a broader trend of leveraging open-source AI to enhance flexibility and avoid vendor lock-in, with developers and product teams increasingly favoring customizable solutions. Examples of the free agents currently available include a PRD Generator, a PM Resume Reviewer, a Product Strategist, and a Product Trio Ideation agent. Future planned additions include a User Stories Generator, a Mock PM Interviewer, and a Market Researcher to further automate and assist in various stages of the product lifecycle. The project is specifically designed for AI platforms like Claude Code and Cowork, using slash commands to trigger workflows. For instance, typing `/strategy` can initiate a complete product strategy canvas, chaining together multiple skills from vision to launch planning.
