GE Aerospace Commits $1B to US Manufacturing

GE Aerospace has committed $1 billion for its 2026 U.S. investments, aimed at boosting production capacity and military support. The plan includes hiring 5,000 workers, showcasing a significant ramp-up in domestic advanced manufacturing.

This marks the second consecutive year GE Aerospace has pledged $1 billion for its U.S. operations. Over $275 million of the new funding is allocated to upgrade sites producing military engines, with another $200 million aimed at expanding manufacturing for the CFM LEAP engine. The commercial aviation investment is heavily driven by a need to increase production of durability kits for the LEAP engine, which powers the Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320neo families. These kits are designed to more than double the engine's time-on-wing in harsh, sandy, or dusty environments, addressing a key maintenance concern for airlines. On the defense side, the investment will bolster the U.S. industrial base amid rising military demand. Key sites receiving funds include Lynn, Massachusetts, with over $40 million for expanding test cell capacity, and Madisonville, Kentucky, with $10 million for new machinery to increase parts production. This spending is backstopped by a massive ~$190 billion backlog for equipment and services. The company's 2025 financial results showed strong momentum, with full-year adjusted revenue growing 21% to $42.3 billion and total orders reaching $66.2 billion. A significant portion of the investment, $115 million, will go to the company's headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. The funds there are designated for modernizing infrastructure, increasing test-cell capacity, and expanding advanced 3D metal printing capabilities for engine parts. To de-risk its supply chain, GE is channeling more than $100 million directly to its external suppliers for tooling and equipment. The company attributes a 40% improvement in material input from priority suppliers last year to its lean operating model, "FLIGHT DECK," which helped increase commercial engine deliveries by 25%.
