Crypto Traders Spot Altcoin Rotation Signs
BlackRock ETF scooped $306M in BTC while traders note altcoins are down 90% with 500-1000x upside potential. Top posted altcoins include $VELO, $PROPS, and $ELSA, with analysts calling for BTC accumulation phase $45-60K before alt pump.
The "altcoin rotation," or "altseason," is a crypto market phase where capital flows from Bitcoin into alternative cryptocurrencies. This typically happens after a strong Bitcoin rally and a period of price stabilization, as investors seek higher returns in smaller-cap coins. A key indicator traders watch is Bitcoin dominance, which measures its share of the total crypto market cap; a decline often signals the start of an altcoin rally. Historically, a drop in Bitcoin dominance below a 50% to 45% threshold has been a trigger for altcoin momentum. This capital shift is not a new phenomenon, with notable altcoin seasons occurring in 2017 and 2021. During the 2021 cycle, for instance, large-cap altcoins delivered 174% returns while Bitcoin saw just 2%. However, with over 10 million tokens now in existence, liquidity is more spread out, suggesting future altcoin seasons may differ from those in the past. The accumulation phase is a critical precursor to this rotation, where experienced investors and institutions steadily acquire assets at lower prices. This period is often characterized by sideways price movement and reduced public interest. On-chain data, such as the Entity Adjusted Liveliness metric, can indicate when long-term holders are accumulating rather than selling, a trend that preceded the 2020 bull run. Recent institutional activity underscores this accumulation, with U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs seeing a net inflow of $1.47 billion over the past two weeks, reversing a five-week outflow trend. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has been a primary driver, absorbing $306.60 million in a single session on March 4th. Since late February, BlackRock has added a net 21,814 BTC, valued at approximately $1.55 billion. Among the altcoins gaining attention, $VELO is part of a project building a federated credit exchange network for borderless asset transfers. $PROPS is the utility token for Propbase, a real estate tokenization platform built on the Aptos blockchain. Meanwhile, $ELSA, an AI-focused token, has seen a flurry of activity with recent listings for perpetual futures on Binance and a planned spot listing on Coinbase.
