LA County Library is marking National Library Week with six days of free programs across its branches and online through Saturday, April 25. (lacountylibrary.org) The county library system said the April 20–25 lineup includes events for children, teens, adults, and older adults built around reading, art, writing, mindfulness, and family activities. The library’s announcement says the 2026 theme is “Find Your Joy.” (lacountylibrary.org) Featured programs this week include a One Book, One Coast discussion of *They Called Us Enemy* on Tuesday, April 21, a virtual author talk with Miranda Cowley Heller on Wednesday, April 22, and a family storytelling program, “Ms. Bits N Bobs Visits the Land of Imagination,” on Saturday, April 25. The library also listed a mindfulness workshop called “Tea for the Soul” and a teen program on Friday, April 24. (lacountylibrary.org) Branch pages show the week is not limited to one format or one audience. Charter Oak Library scheduled an arts-and-crafts program for children ages 3 to 5 on April 21, and Lomita Library scheduled “Planting Joy” for ages 6 to 12 on April 22. (lacountylibrary.org) The broader calendar shows the same week also includes storytimes, writing workshops, art sessions, and programs for adults with developmental disabilities at branches including Hollydale, La Crescenta, Rowland Heights, and East Rancho Dominguez. Several events were already marked full or closed for registration by April 23. (lacountylibrary.org) National Library Week itself runs April 19–25, 2026, according to the American Library Association, which has observed it each April since 1958. The association’s 2026 campaign also uses the “Find Your Joy” theme and names librarian and “Reading Rainbow” host Mychal Threets as honorary chair. (ala.org) LA County Library’s local campaign ties that national message to year-round services. Its April programming page highlights free bookmarks for visitors during National Library Week, while the main library site points readers to library cards, events, borrowing, streaming, research tools, and branch locations. (lacountylibrary.org 1) (lacountylibrary.org 2) County Librarian and Director Dr. Skye Patrick said in the library’s announcement that residents may find joy in “discovering a new book, attending a program, learning a skill, connecting with others,” or simply feeling welcomed at a branch. The week’s schedule runs through Saturday, April 25, with branch listings and virtual event details posted on the library’s website. (lacountylibrary.org)
