Seoul's Chrome Hearts Store Opens
Seoul is buzzing as a top travel pick, praised for blending tradition and modernity — with travelers advised to stay central for TikTok-famous spots and limit Gangnam shopping. The new Chrome Hearts store in Myeongdong is noted as a fresh draw for the district.
The Chrome Hearts presence in Myeongdong is part of a broader luxury overhaul of the Shinsegae Department Store's main branch. This historic location has been transformed into a "luxury mansion," featuring newly renovated and expanded boutiques for global brands like Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Chanel. The renewal, the largest in over a decade for the store, aims to create a landmark destination for VIP customers. This significant investment in luxury retail comes as Myeongdong experiences a major revival. Once hit hard by the pandemic with vacancy rates soaring, the district has seen a dramatic recovery driven by a surge in foreign tourists. The area is re-establishing itself as a prime shopping destination, attracting new flagship stores and significant investment from major brands. The American brand was founded in a Los Angeles garage in 1988 by Richard Stark and John Bowman. Initially focused on leather motorcycle gear, the label quickly gained a following within the rock 'n' roll scene. Master silversmith Leonard Kamhout later joined, introducing the brand's signature gothic-inspired silver jewelry. Chrome Hearts maintains an aura of exclusivity by not selling its core items online and operating a limited number of boutiques in major cities across the United States, Europe, and Asia. This strategy fosters a destination shopping experience, where visiting a physical store is a key part of the brand interaction. The brand's other Seoul locations are in the upscale Cheongdam neighborhood and the Shinsegae department store in Gangnam.
