Coogler's X-Files Reboot Gets Pilot

Ryan Coogler's *X-Files* reboot has received a pilot order from Hulu, with Danielle Deadwyler set to star. This marks a major step forward for the project, which aims to update the iconic paranormal investigation format for a new generation. The reboot represents Coogler's first major television venture following his success with the *Black Panther* films.

- The original *X-Files*, created by Chris Carter, aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002 and was followed by two revival seasons in 2016 and 2018, as well as two feature films. The series, starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, became a pop culture touchstone with slogans like "The Truth Is Out There." - Chris Carter, the original series creator, will serve as an executive producer on the reboot but has stated he will only be involved as a "cheerleader." He has given his blessing to Coogler, noting that the new version will feature a diverse cast and has "some good ideas." - Ryan Coogler will not only produce but is also slated to write and direct the pilot episode. Jennifer Yale, known for her work on "The Copenhagen Test," will serve as the showrunner. - Coogler's production company, Proximity Media, which he founded with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, is producing the series. The company has a five-year exclusive television deal with Disney and has been behind projects like *Judas and the Black Messiah* and the *Creed* and *Black Panther* sequels. - Danielle Deadwyler has an extensive background in theater and has received critical acclaim for her roles in the film *Till* and the Western *The Harder They Fall*. Her television credits include appearances in *P-Valley*, *Station Eleven*, and *Watchmen*. - The reboot's premise involves two FBI agents with differing backgrounds who form an unlikely bond while assigned to the long-closed "X-Files" division. The search for the new cast is being conducted by Francine Maisler, who previously collaborated with Coogler on his 2025 film *Sinners*.
