Broadway act hits late‑night TV

The Bengsons brought 'My Joy Is Heavy!' to The Tonight Show — a TV showcase that producers say fuels social buzz and ticket lifts for emotionally driven, genre‑bending musicals (youtube.com).

New York Theatre Workshop lists My Joy Is Heavy in its 2025/26 season running Feb. 25–April 12, 2026 with performances running approximately 70 minutes and no intermission. The piece is created and performed by married duo Abigail and Shaun Bengson and credits Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin as director, Steph Paul as choreographer and Or Matias as music supervisor. The production began performances Feb. 25, officially opened March 17, 2026, and was initially reported to run through April 5 before NYTW posted an extension of the engagement to April 12. Critics have been broadly positive: BroadwayScorecard aggregates a 75/100 review average for the show, Time Out New York awarded four stars, and NYTW quotes praise from The New York Times and Vulture on its publicity page. NYTW’s ticket calendar shows sample prices of $59 for several weekday evening and matinee performances, and the house notes an “extended by popular demand” closing date on its listing. The official production page carries a content advisory flagging discussion of pregnancy loss, chronic pain and depression and also outlines Radical Access provisions including open captioning, assistive listening and audio description. Playbill and NYTW list the broader creative team as scenic designer Lee Jellinek, costume designer Hahnji Jang, lighting designer Alan Edwards and sound designer Nick Kourtides on the production roster.
