Aqara’s Matter hubs

Aqara launched the W200 thermostat hub aimed at automating climate and security with Apple and Matter support, and reviewers are praising the Camera Hub G350 for combining indoor security camera features with full Matter compatibility. ( ) Together these moves show the smart‑home category is tightening around cross‑platform standards, not closed ecosystems. (techradar.com)

A smart thermostat used to do one job: turn heat and air conditioning on and off. Aqara’s new W200 is trying to be the wall panel for your whole house, with a 4-inch touchscreen, a built-in hub, and support for Apple Home and Matter, the cross-brand smart-home standard. (androidauthority.com, aqara.com) Matter is the shared language that lets a lock from one brand, a bulb from another, and a speaker from a third show up in the same home app. Aqara says the W200 can act as a Matter controller, a Thread border router, and a bridge for older Zigbee devices, so one screen can pull together more than 50 device types. (aqara.com, aqara.com) Thread is the low-power mesh network many newer sensors use, like a neighborhood where each house relays the message to the next. Zigbee is an older smart-home radio system, so the W200’s real trick is speaking both languages while also passing devices into Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. (aqara.com, androidauthority.com) The thermostat part is built for North American 24-volt heating and cooling systems, including furnaces, boilers, and heat pumps, and Aqara lists the price at $159.99. If your wiring does not include a common wire, Aqara sells a separate common-wire adapter for $29.99. (androidauthority.com, aqara.com) Aqara also added a millimeter-wave radar presence sensor, which is a more precise way to tell whether a person is actually in the room than the old “something moved” motion sensors. The company says that lets the W200 wake its screen when someone approaches and shift into energy-saving routines when a room is empty. (androidauthority.com, aqara.com) The Apple part is new enough that it changes how the thermostat behaves. Aqara says Apple’s Adaptive Temperature uses your iPhone or Apple Watch activity state like home, sleep, away, and extended away, while Apple’s Clean Energy Guidance can make small temperature changes when the local grid is cleaner and electricity may cost less in the contiguous United States. (aqara.com, aqara.com) Then Aqara made the same bet with a camera. Reviewers at Trusted Reviews say the new Camera Hub G350 is both Aqara’s first Matter-certified camera and a full hub, with Matter control, Thread border router duties, and Zigbee support packed into one indoor pan-and-tilt device. (trustedreviews.com) As a camera, the G350 is unusually stacked for an indoor model: Trusted Reviews says it combines a 4K wide-angle lens with a 2.5K telephoto lens for up to 9x hybrid zoom, while TechRadar highlights its 360-degree pan and tilt for following people and pets across a room. (trustedreviews.com, techradar.com) The catch is that the camera side of Matter is still early. Trusted Reviews says the G350 is “technically the first Matter-enabled camera,” but also says the Matter camera experience feels more like a preview than a finished feature right now. (trustedreviews.com) Put the W200 and G350 together and Aqara is selling fewer single-purpose gadgets and more “control points” for the home. Aqara said at Consumer Electronics Show 2026 on January 6, 2026 that both devices sit at the center of its system, using Matter, Thread, Zigbee, and dual-band Wi‑Fi to manage Aqara gear and third-party products from the same network. (aqara.com) That is where the smart-home market is heading in 2026: not one brand locking you into one app, but hardware that can sit in the middle and translate. Aqara’s newest thermostat and camera still push its own ecosystem, but both products are being pitched around compatibility first, which is a very different sales pitch from the smart-home wars of a few years ago.
