Salesforce Expands Agentic AI Suite
Salesforce is expanding its Agentforce 360 AI suite through the acquisitions of conversational intelligence firm Momentum and retail AI company Cimulate. The company is integrating Momentum's technology to enhance agentic workflows, while Cimulate's platform will be used to create smarter shopping experiences.
- Momentum's technology is designed to solve a critical GTM data problem: capturing unstructured data from voice and video calls on platforms like Zoom and Google Meet and converting it into structured intelligence that can drive automated workflows in Agentforce and Slack. This addresses the long-standing issue of valuable conversational insights being lost because they are not manually entered into the CRM. - These acquisitions are part of a larger, deliberate strategy by Salesforce, which has completed ten deals in six months to address specific weaknesses in its Agentforce platform since its launch in September 2024. This buying spree is aimed at building a full-stack agentic platform, adding capabilities in data governance (Informatica), process mining (Apromore), and enterprise search (Doti AI). - By acquiring Momentum, Salesforce heightens its competition with established players in the conversational intelligence market like Gong and Zoom (which owns Chorus.ai), as well as Microsoft. This move signals a broader trend of consolidating point solutions for data capture and analysis directly into the main CRM platform. - The Cimulate acquisition targets the shift in retail from keyword-based search to "intent-driven discovery." Its platform uses a mix of real and simulated shopper journey data to better predict what a customer wants, allowing retail clients to create more effective, conversational shopping experiences. - From a startup ecosystem perspective, the deals represent strategic "acqui-tech" moves. For instance, Momentum, founded in 2020, had secured a $13 million Series A funding round in July 2024 before being acquired. - Both acquisitions are fundamentally about improving the data foundation for Salesforce's AI. Momentum provides high-fidelity, unstructured conversational data, while Cimulate offers complex shopper intent data. This higher-quality data is crucial for training more effective autonomous agents on the Einstein 1 Platform, which already processes over 3 trillion tokens monthly. - The transactions for both Momentum and Cimulate are expected to close in the first quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.
