Cursor Hits $2B Revenue Run Rate
AI coding assistant Cursor has reportedly crossed $2 billion in annualized revenue, marking a massive leap in demand for AI-powered developer tools. The milestone signals that AI-native platforms are becoming foundational infrastructure for enterprise productivity and software development.
Cursor's parent company, Anysphere, was valued at a staggering $29.3 billion following a $2.3 billion funding round in November 2025. This valuation was more than triple what the company was worth just six months prior, highlighting immense investor confidence in the coding automation sector. The company was founded in 2022 by four MIT students: Michael Truell, Aman Sanger, Sualeh Asif, and Arvid Lunnemark. By November 2025, after a significant funding round, the four founders were all estimated to be billionaires. Lunnemark departed the company in October 2025 to launch a startup focused on "safer AI." Cursor's rapid revenue growth is largely attributed to a strategic shift towards large enterprise customers, which now account for 60% of its revenue. This move has helped offset the departure of some individual developers and smaller startups to more price-competitive rivals like Anthropic's Claude Code. The AI coding assistant initially utilized models from other major players like OpenAI and Anthropic but has since developed its own model called Composer. This move aims to enhance the speed and capability of its code generation and reduce its reliance on third-party models. The company has also been active in acquisitions, purchasing the code review platform Graphite in December 2025. This acquisition is part of a broader strategy to offer an end-to-end development workflow, from initial code generation to review and merging. The competitive landscape for AI developer tools is heating up, with major players like OpenAI's Codex, Google, and other startups like Replit and Cognition vying for market share. This intense competition comes amid a massive surge in demand for AI-powered programming assistants.
