Visa's Intelligent Authorization API aims to modernize payment processing for acquirers, who are the banks and financial institutions processing payments for merchants. The API simplifies infrastructure by abstracting authorization logic across various card networks through a single connection. This eliminates the need for acquirers to rebuild expensive, time-consuming infrastructure to support new payment methods. The API boasts 99.999% uptime and a global average approval rate of 96.3%, establishing industry-leading benchmarks. Visa's machine learning engine analyzes transaction data in real-time, optimizing routing decisions based on network rules, industry programs, and regional regulations. It also provides instant risk alerts and a centralized portal with an analytics dashboard for streamlined oversight and regulatory compliance. This launch arrives as digital wallets, stablecoins, and AI-driven "agentic commerce" increase transaction volume and complexity. Visa Intelligent Authorization is designed to handle this shift, delivering smarter decision-making across networks through a single integration. Visa's CEO stated that much of today's infrastructure was not built for this new era. Visa is focusing on expanding its network and enhancing its technological capabilities. In 2024, Visa invested US$3.1 billion in technology. Visa's strategy involves building collaborations across the fintech sector, including the Visa Innovation Program in Europe.
