Hong Kong Eyes Tourism Uptick
With Middle East tensions ongoing, Hong Kong is positioning itself as a safe and attractive destination for international travelers HK poised for increased tourism as Middle East tensions persist, says HKTB chief. The Hong Kong Tourism Board expects increased tourism and new travel packages.
Hong Kong saw 49.9 million visitor arrivals in 2025, a 12% increase from the previous year. Of those, 37.8 million were from mainland China. Non-mainland visitors totaled 12.1 million, up 15% from 2024. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is allocated $1.66 billion to boost tourism. A new show themed around light festivals will replace "A Symphony of Lights". The HKTB aims to draw high-end overnight visitors by stepping up marketing in mainland cities outside Guangdong, as well as in emerging markets like ASEAN and the Middle East. They also want to attract more conferences, exhibitions, and incentive travel events. Hong Kong is considered a safe destination for tourists. One study ranked Hong Kong as the 13th safest city in the world. Gallup's 2025 Global Safety Report ranked Hong Kong sixth globally. The "Development Blueprint for Hong Kong's Tourism Industry 2.0" outlines strategies for long-term tourism development. The plan includes developing potential source markets and promoting specific segments like MICE and cruise visitors. The average length of stay for overnight visitors in Hong Kong was 3.1 nights in 2025. Visitors rated their satisfaction with Hong Kong at 8.9 out of 10.
