Two Rivers, a 3,405-acre master-planned community located off State Road 56, is bringing over 6,400 new residential units to the Tampa Bay area. The development also includes 1,335,000 square feet of office and industry space, and 630,000 square feet for retail. Residents will have access to over 10 miles of scenic trails, playgrounds, and a future K-8 school in Zephyrhills. Two Rivers is split between the Thomas family, who oversee non-residential aspects, and Eisenhower Properties, managing residential development. The Thomas family's Two Rivers Ranch, spanning Hillsborough, Pasco, and Hernando counties, has been operating for over 80 years. In 2014, the ranch received an Environmental Stewardship Award for its land management practices. Tampa is increasingly recognized for its urban sustainability efforts. In 2023, the city ranked sixth nationally for integrating renewable energy, public transit, and green space preservation. Tampa adopted a Climate Action Plan in 2019, targeting carbon neutrality by 2050, with a goal to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035. Eco-friendly features in Tampa homes are gaining popularity, with homeowners seeking energy-efficient appliances, solar panels, and sustainable materials like reclaimed wood. Incorporating smart home technology, such as smart thermostats and lighting systems, is also a growing trend. Tampa's focus on sustainability is also creating economic opportunities, with green jobs constituting 12% of the city's employment.
