TECNO Unveils AI-Powered Phones
TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship CAMON 50 smartphone series at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The launch will also feature a broader AI product ecosystem, signaling the company's focus on integrating artificial intelligence across its devices.
TECNO's focus on AI in its CAMON 50 series builds on a strategy showcased at MWC 2025, where the CAMON 40 series was unveiled. That lineup, powered by MediaTek Dimensity processors, already incorporated AI features like the "One-Tap FlashSnap" for capturing fast-moving subjects and various AI-driven image editing tools. The new CAMON 50 series elevates this with a dedicated AI computing architecture paired with Sony camera hardware. New features include "Super-Zoom FlashSnap" for high-speed captures without shutter lag and "AI Auto Zoom" that intelligently frames subjects. The phone also functions as a creative hub with an AI Art Gallery and the productivity-focused One-Tap FlashMemo. This push into advanced AI is part of a wider industry trend at MWC 2026, where on-device generative AI has become a foundational element for many manufacturers. Competitors are showcasing phones that can perform complex tasks without cloud connectivity, from real-time voice translation to advanced photo editing based on semantic descriptions. At the core of TECNO's ecosystem is its upgraded AI assistant, Ella. The company reports that its AI services processed over 500 million user requests in 2025, with a significant portion being image-related tasks in non-English languages. The latest version of Ella features enhanced contextual understanding, enabling it to summarize YouTube videos, read and reply to WhatsApp messages, and suggest task organization. This strategy is particularly aimed at emerging markets, where TECNO's parent company, Transsion, holds a significant position. In 2025, Transsion commanded a 48% market share in Africa and, as of February 2025, TECNO alone accounted for 23.55% of the mobile market in Nigeria. The company's "Practical AI" framework focuses on localization, supporting languages like Hausa and improving recognition for African-accented English and French, with offline capabilities for key languages. Beyond smartphones, TECNO is expanding its AI ecosystem to include AI-enhanced smart wearables and an upgraded cross-device solution called OneLeap. The company is also set to launch a co-created product line with Tonino Lamborghini, featuring a gaming mini-PC and a limited-edition phone, signaling a move into high-performance and luxury-branded devices.
