Michelin added nine New York City restaurants to its 2026 New York guide this week, putting them in contention for stars or Bib Gourmand recognition. (guide.michelin.com, ny.eater.com) The additions were announced Wednesday, April 15, and split unevenly across the city: five in Brooklyn and four in Manhattan. Michelin says it adds new restaurants to the guide twice a year, before the annual awards ceremony reveals stars and Bib Gourmands. (fox5ny.com, guide.michelin.com) Brooklyn’s new entries are Entre Nous and Los Burritos Juárez in Clinton Hill, Bong in Crown Heights, Vato in Park Slope, and I Cavallini in Williamsburg. Manhattan’s additions are Le Chêne in Greenwich Village, Hwaro in Midtown West, Elcielo New York in NoMad, and Cove in SoHo. (fox5ny.com, timeout.com) A Michelin guide addition is not the same thing as a star. Michelin says restaurants added to the selection are already on inspectors’ radar and can later be promoted to Bib Gourmand status or to one or more stars. (fox5ny.com, guide.michelin.com) Michelin’s inspectors say they judge restaurants on ingredient quality, harmony of flavors, mastery of techniques, the chef’s voice, and consistency across visits. Those criteria apply whether a restaurant is a casual burrito shop like Los Burritos Juárez or a tasting-menu counter like Hwaro. (fox5ny.com) The April list shows Brooklyn taking a larger share of the new picks than Manhattan. Michelin highlighted Clinton Hill wine bar Entre Nous, Crown Heights Cambodian spot Bong, and Park Slope tortilleria Vato, while Time Out noted that Vato is backed by the team behind one-star Corima and that I Cavallini comes from the group behind one-star The Four Horsemen. (guide.michelin.com, timeout.com) In Manhattan, Michelin described Le Chêne as a classic French restaurant from Alexia and Ronan Duchêne and Hwaro as chef Sungchul Shim’s 22-seat counter inside Gui. Time Out said Elcielo New York joins the list with a Latin America- and Colombia-focused tasting menu, while Cove was recognized for chef Flynn McGarry’s California cooking. (guide.michelin.com, timeout.com) The additions also expand a guide that already covers more than 350 New York City restaurants across starred, Bib Gourmand, and recommended categories. Michelin’s official New York restaurant page listed 358 restaurants as of this week. (guide.michelin.com, guide.michelin.com) The next milestone is the 2026 New York Michelin ceremony later this year, when Michelin will decide whether any of these nine move from “new” to award-winning. Until then, they sit in the guide as Michelin-recommended restaurants, with a “New” marker on Michelin’s site and app. (guide.michelin.com, timeout.com)
