Gnarls Barkley Drops Final Album

The duo's 2006 debut, *St. Elsewhere*, was a critical and commercial behemoth, largely propelled by the single "Crazy." The song became the first UK number-one single based on download sales alone and was named the best song of the decade by Rolling Stone in 2009. The album itself secured a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. Their second album, 2008's *The Odd Couple*, was also met with positive reviews for its blend of psychedelic sounds and soul. However, it was leaked online before its scheduled release, which prompted an earlier digital release, and it did not match the massive commercial success of its predecessor. During the 18-year gap, producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) became one of the most in-demand producers in music. He has won six Grammy Awards and has produced albums for a diverse range of acclaimed artists including Gorillaz, The Black Keys, Beck, and Adele. Vocalist CeeLo Green (Thomas Callaway) also thrived, releasing several solo albums. His 2010 album *The Lady Killer* featured the viral, Grammy-winning hit "Fuck You!" (radio-edited as "Forget You"). Green also became a familiar face on television as a coach on the singing competition show *The Voice*. The lead single from their new album *Atlanta* is titled "Pictures." CeeLo Green has stated the song was inspired by his childhood memories of riding the MARTA public transit system in his native Atlanta, watching the city go by as if in a motion picture. Prior to forming Gnarls Barkley, Green was a member of the Atlanta hip-hop group Goodie Mob. Danger Mouse gained initial fame for his 2004 mash-up *The Grey Album*, which blended The Beatles' *White Album* with Jay-Z's *The Black Album*.
