AI Startups Expect Job Growth

A survey of nearly 100 early-stage, AI-native startups finds that most are expecting to hire more—not fewer—employees in the coming year, particularly for product, engineering, and GTM roles. AI is seen as an accelerant for new business models, not a job destroyer, especially in the PM and product design space.

The survey, conducted by AI Grant, found that 92% of AI-native startups anticipate increasing their headcount in the next year. This bullish outlook contrasts with widespread fears of AI automating jobs out of existence. Startups are prioritizing roles that directly contribute to product development and market penetration. Engineering roles are in high demand, with 70% of startups planning to hire more engineers. Product management and GTM (go-to-market) roles follow closely behind, indicating a focus on building and selling AI-powered solutions. The survey suggests AI is creating new business opportunities that require skilled human workers. These AI-native companies are not just building AI, they're building businesses around AI, which necessitates a diverse range of talent. This trend could reshape the tech job market, demanding new skill sets and creating novel career paths.
