YouTube ups subscription prices

YouTube raised prices for Premium and Music subscriptions, marking another round of streaming cost increases for listeners. (digitaltrends.com) The brief links this to a broader trend of rising consumer costs across music platforms. (digitaltrends.com)

YouTube is raising U.S. prices again for Premium and Music, pushing its main ad-free plan to $15.99 a month. (support.google.com, variety.com) The new U.S. rates reported on April 10 move YouTube Premium Individual from $13.99 to $15.99 a month and YouTube Music Individual from $10.99 to $11.99. Family plans also rise, with Premium going from $22.99 to $26.99 and Music from $16.99 to $18.99. (variety.com, musicbusinessworldwide.com) Premium Lite, the stripped-down tier YouTube expanded in the United States in March 2025 at $7.99 a month, is also reported to be rising to $8.99. Lite removes ads from most videos but does not include ad-free music, offline downloads, or background play. (blog.youtube, musicbusinessworldwide.com) YouTube says it emails members at least 30 days before a price increase and charges existing subscribers the higher rate on the first billing cycle after that notice period. New subscribers pay the posted price immediately. (support.google.com) The increase lands after YouTube’s last major U.S. hike in July 2023, when Premium went from $11.99 to $13.99 and Music went from $9.99 to $10.99. That makes this the second U.S. increase in less than three years. (techcrunch.com, variety.com) The company has added more paid features during that stretch. In January 2025, YouTube rolled out Premium experiments including higher-quality 256 kilobits-per-second audio on music videos, faster mobile playback options up to 4x, and a Google One bundle offer in the United States. (blog.youtube) YouTube is also leaning on scale. The company said in March 2025 that YouTube Music and Premium had passed 125 million subscribers globally, including trials, as it widened the Premium Lite pilot. (blog.youtube) The move fits a wider pattern across paid audio. Spotify raised U.S. Premium prices in June 2024 to $11.99 for Individual, $16.99 for Duo, $19.99 for Family, and $5.99 for Student. (newsroom.spotify.com) Rivals still give listeners cheaper entry points in some cases. Apple Music’s student plan is listed at $5.99 a month and its standard individual plan at $10.99 a month, while Amazon Music Unlimited is listed at $12.99 a month, or $11.99 for Prime members. (support.apple.com, music.apple.com, amazon.com) For YouTube users, the new math is simple: fewer ads and more features now cost more, and the bill changes on the next cycle after notice arrives.
