Fremont Hosts Festival of Colors Today

The FOG Holi 2026 festival is taking place today from 11 AM to 5 PM at Washington High School in Fremont. The annual Festival of Colors, which marks the arrival of spring, brings the community together for music, dancing, and throwing colorful powders.

Holi, an ancient Hindu festival, celebrates the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of spring. Its traditions are rooted in the legend of Prahlad and Holika, where devotion prevailed over tyranny, and the divine love story of Radha and Krishna. The festival provides an opportunity to reset relationships, forgive past grievances, and embrace new beginnings. The organizer, Festival of Globe (FOG), is a multifaceted cultural organization that grew out of the Federation of Indian Americans of Northern California (FIA). Established in 1983, the FIA has been a cornerstone for the growing Indian diaspora in the Bay Area, hosting large-scale events like the Festival of India Parade for over three decades. Fremont's celebration is one of the largest in the Bay Area, with past events drawing thousands of attendees, including a wide array of IT professionals, students, and families. The event features biodegradable, skin-friendly colors, DJs playing Bollywood music, and dance performances from local studios. This festival reflects the significant cultural footprint of the Indian-American community in Fremont, a city where over 50% of residents are of Asian descent. The Bay Area is home to the second-largest Indian-American population in the U.S., with Fremont being a major hub due to its proximity to Silicon Valley tech companies, good schools, and a strong network of community services and cultural institutions.
